Fixing Wireless on HP 15 laptop for Realtek RTL8723BE

16 June, 2017 | Linux

If you're experiencing low signal for you wifi, and no connection at all, you might try to do this (valid for Ubuntu or Ubuntu related flavours):

# apt-add-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi
# apt-get update
# apt-get install rtlwifi-new-dkms linux-firmware

After this, create a new file in /etc/modprobe.d folder called let's say, rtl8723be.conf

options rtl8723be ant_sel=1

Restart and the signal should improve.

You can check it with:

iwlist scan | egrep 'SSID|level'

Compilation directly from sources is also possible, with the code from here.
